Recruiting Watch With Darren Francis: Laverne Johns - T

Hello recruiting nerds, I bring you to more in detail analysis in this edition of Recruiting Watch With Darren Francis. For this installment, I examine Laverne Johns, a young T, who played high school football at SATSUMA HS, AL. His ranking of 105 nationally, makes him a 4 star recruit. Johns is 6' 4" tall, clocks in at 296 pounds and is 18 years old. This is what we know:

This kid puts in the work. He comes of the line with power and leverage on run plays. This is something that scouts notice. Pass blocking against college players makes for a difficult transition from high school. But the tape indicates he will do well in that regard.

Combining multiple media reports, the list of teams that have been in contact include at least the following: Auburn Tigers, Tennessee Volunteers, Mississippi State Bulldogs, North Texas Mean Green, Missouri Tigers, Marshall Thundering Herd, Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, Memphis Tigers, Central Florida Knights, Illinois Fighting Illini.

Recruiting Watch With Darren Francis: Peter Holland - LB

Greetings lovers of all things recruiting. It is time for another edition of Recruiting Watch With Darren Francis. In today's report, I present Peter Holland. Holland is a talented LB, from HART COUNTY HS, GA. His ranking of 69 nationally, makes Holland a 4 star recruit. Holland is 18 years old, weighs 245 pounds and is 6' 6" tall. Alright, let us get down to business!

Known among his teammates as a bit of a goofball, but never in a bad way. The kind that keeps spirits high even when a season goes south. Tackles with good technique. Closing speed good enough to get to the Quarterback often. And good enough to cover Tigh Ends and slower Wide Receivers. He was one of the smarter football players at his high school.

Peter Holland has a received a lot of attention from recruiters. Oklahoma State Cowboys, BYU Cougars, Colorado State Rams, East Carolina Pirates, Louisville Cardinals, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oregon Ducks, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Washington Huskies, North Texas Mean Green, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, Central Florida Knights, Colorado Buffaloes, SMU Mustangs have all been in contact with Holland.

The fans of BYU Cougars were psyched to see him post a picture of himself wearing their jersey on social media. However, rumours as to any final decision were quickly swatted once he announced that he had owned that jersey for years. Still, it is hard to believe there was not a grain of intent in there.

Recruiting Watch With Darren Francis: Kevin Thrash - LB

Greetings football addicts, welcome again to more detailed analysis in this new round of Recruiting Watch With Darren Francis. In this rendition, I give you a review of Kevin Thrash. Thrash is an accomplished LB, who played high school football at TRUMAN SHS, PA. Thrash is ranked as a 5 star player, and 27 overall. He is 6' 3" tall, weighs 235 pounds and is 18 years old. Here is what we found out:

Tackles like a pro. Good punch for the ball will force fumbles. You will rarely see him miss. Has developed nice strength at his young age. Shows good understanding of his assignments on the field.

As one of the better LB coming out of high school this year, it is no surprise that Kevin Thrash has is being courted by several programs. Local news report that at least these teams have shown interest in bringing him into their program: Michigan State Spartans, Ohio State Buckeyes, South Carolina Gamecocks, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Louisville Cardinals, Utah State Aggies, Arizona State Sun Devils, Utah Utes, Nevada Wolf Pack, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Pittsburgh Panthers, Penn Quakers, Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, Syracuse Orange, Marshall Thundering Herd, West Virginia Mountaineers.

I am told that Thrash unofficially told one of his former coaches, that he is leaning toward committing to Ohio State Buckeyes.

Recruiting Watch With Darren Francis

Greetings football addicts, to this edition of Recruiting Watch With Darren Francis. As you may know, in these early season installments of Recruiting Watch, we assess two of the most coveted recruits. Now, down to business!

Kevin Hammond - RB:
Kevin Hammond is a talented RB, and star of the MARIETTA HS (GA) football program. His ranking of 12 nationally, makes Hammond a 5 star player. Hammond is 19 years old, weighs 198 pounds and is 6' 0" tall.

Teammates look to him for leadership, and he consistently delivers. He helps everyone get in the right position, making the team run as a well oiled machine. His good natured behavior, even toward opponents have earned him some criticism, but also an awful lot of respect. This kid can move. What you strikes you on his high school tape is that break away speed. His strength is good, and will only get better with training.

The list of teams that have been in contact with Kevin Hammond is long. According to people close to Hammond, all of these teams have reached out to him: Oklahoma Sooners, Ohio State Buckeyes, Louisville Cardinals, Vanderbilt Commodores, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Oregon State Beavers, Penn State Nittany Lions, Utah Utes, West Virginia Mountaineers, Navy Midshipmen, LSU Tigers, South Carolina Gamecocks, Clemson Tigers, Tennessee Volunteers, Colorado Buffaloes, Auburn Tigers, Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Marcelo Steadman - CB:
Marcelo Steadman is an interesting CB, out of SHERWOOD HIGH, MD. Steadman is a 5 star recruit, ranked 11. He is 19 years old, weighs 174 pounds and is 5' 11" tall.

Not a speedster per se, but enough to play man. He is faster than he is given credit for. Fast learner.

A hot prospect, and a star coming out of high school, Marcelo Steadman has plenty of suitors. His high school gave the following list of who had officially contacted them: Ohio State Buckeyes, Colorado State Rams, Purdue Boilermakers, Connecticut Huskies, Maryland Terrapins, Washington Huskies, Michigan Wolverines, Penn State Nittany Lions, West Virginia Mountaineers, Boise State Broncos, Iowa Hawkeyes, Marshall Thundering Herd, Missouri Tigers, Ole Miss Rebels, Navy Midshipmen.

Recruiting Watch With Darren Francis

Welcome readers, to the next installment of Recruiting Watch With Darren Francis. As usual, in these early season editions of Recruiting Watch, we evaluate two of the five star recruits. Here is our analyses:

Junior Holder - DE:
Junior Holder is an intriguing DE, and star of the RIVERSIDE COUNTY COMMUNITY (CA) football program. His ranking of 7 nationally, makes him a 5 star recruit. He is 18 years old, weighs 260 pounds and is 6' 5" tall.

What can I say? The guy loves to win and it shows on the field. The muscles on this kid allows him to shed blocks and keep contain. Will not have to come off the field for in obvious passing situations. Has enough quickness to pressure Quarterbacks off the edge.

The teams interested in Junior Holder include San Diego State Aztecs, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Clemson Tigers, UCLA Bruins, Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, Connecticut Huskies, Nevada Wolf Pack, Colorado Buffaloes, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Virginia Tech Hokies, Duke Blue Devils, California Golden Bears, Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, BYU Cougars, Purdue Boilermakers, Utah Utes, Mississippi State Bulldogs. Junior Holder admitted that it was a bit overwhelming, with teams tripping over each other to set up meetings with him.

Persons acquainted with him say that Holder likely will commit to the California Golden Bears. But whether that knowledge is reliable is hard to tell.

Lacy Levin - TE:
Lacy Levin is a talented TE, out of NEWTON NORTH HIGH, MA. Levin is a 5 star player, and his overall ranking is 9. Levin is 6' 4" tall, clocks in at 232 pounds and is 19 years old.

In addition to his own role, this kid doubles as glue. He makes everyone on the field play as a team. This is the guy you want in the red zone. He will get the job done. You better not put a linebacker on this guy. He is faster than his tape shows.

The following teams are rumored to be chasing the promising TE: Purdue Boilermakers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Colorado State Rams, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Arizona State Sun Devils, Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, Penn Quakers, Clemson Tigers. Clearly, Lacy Levin has plenty of options to mull over.

Lacy Levin has made an effort to keep to himself, his deliberations about where to commit. Not even his closest friends know.

Recruiting Watch With Darren Francis

Howdy football enthusiasts, excited to give you more Recruiting Watch With Darren Francis. As usual, in these early season issues of Recruiting Watch, we provide an in depth look at two of the five star prospects. Here is our analyses:

Melvin Hyland - DE:
Melvin Hyland is an intriguing DE, out of CHENANGO FORKS HS, NY. Hyland is a 5 star player, ranked 2. Hyland is 6' 4" tall, weighs 250 pounds and is 19 years old.

Closing speed good enough to get to the Quarterback often.

The list of teams that have been in contact with Melvin Hyland is long. According to people close to Hyland, all of these teams have reached out to him: Connecticut Huskies, Louisville Cardinals, Colorado State Rams, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Northwestern Wildcats, Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Purdue Boilermakers, BYU Cougars, Clemson Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Colorado Buffaloes, Alabama Crimson Tide, Syracuse Orange, Auburn Tigers.

I am told that Hyland unofficially told one of his former coaches, that he is leaning toward committing to Purdue Boilermakers.

Anthony Prater - CB:
Anthony Prater is CB, graduating from SOAR CTR, TX. His ranking of 3 nationally, makes Prater a 5 star player. Prater is 18 years old, weighs 177 pounds and is 6' 0" tall.

He is driven by his love of the sport. Has the speed to stay close to his man. While not elite, he has enough speed that you can do a lot of different things with him.

A lot of teams are vying for a commitment from the young CB. The number of teams that have approached Anthony Prater is not insignificant. Combining multiple media reports, the list of teams that have been in contact include at least the following: Texas Tech Red Raiders, Connecticut Huskies, Louisville Cardinals, Colorado State Rams, Northwestern Wildcats, Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, Purdue Boilermakers, Utah State Aggies, BYU Cougars, South Carolina Gamecocks, Clemson Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Maryland Terrapins, Alabama Crimson Tide, TCU Horned Frogs, Marshall Thundering Herd, Oklahoma Sooners.

My sources indicate that Marshall Thundering Herd are his current favorite destination. This seems supported by his glowing recount of his visit to the program.

Miami (OH) Red Hawks pull off the upset!

With an outstanding effort the Miami (OH) Red Hawks pull off the upset against Cincinnati Bearcats.
